I created the artwork for the cover selecting an interior piece from CVA’s classic “Harris Burdick” picture book for this 208 page compilation of art and short stories by 14 famous authors. The cover has embossing on the type, foil and spot gloss with matte lamination.

I worked back and forth with Ms. Morrison on this title. I designed the spreads and turned them over to her to write the text which she wrote concurrently as we devoted the concept and messaging. I chose the archival photo for the cover of two young girls, one black the other white facing one another with a vivid chasm between them to create a timeless cover which powerfully conveys the historic struggle of school integration.

I worked with illustrator, Philippe Lardy, to create the beautiful cover for the book. Philippe supplied the gorgeous background art and I created the art of Emmett using a digital photo which I turned into a “painting” and then digitally layered into the background to create the final cover artwork.
